102 5.2. Management roles (working roles) The managerial roles are grouped in three groups: interpersonal, information and roles connected with decision-making. Interpersonal roles They result from the power and status of the manager. The man- ager plays three interpersonal roles: The first is the role of a representing person (chef manager). In this role, the manager executes duties of social or legal nature and per- forms representative activities. Here the manager appears as symbol in the implementation of some ceremonial legal or public obligations. Sometimes he/she has to come into contacts with organizations that seek collaboration due to his/her authority and prestige. This role is typical for the high levels of management; The second role is the role of a leader. In its performance the in- terpersonal relationships between the manager and the employees are outlined. The manager must bind together the interests of the subordi- nates and the organization and create an environment for effective work. In this role the manager does almost all of the managerial activi- ties by motivating and activating the employees and controlling the work done. The manager takes responsibilities for the training, qualifi- cation and professional rise of the employees. Presently the importance of this role is growing; The third interpersonal role is the one of a connection unit. This role makes possible the actions of establishing of contacts and collect- ing of information. The manager takes part in discussions, meetings and in the realization of exchange of documents within the organization. This role is focused on the manager’s contacts outside his/her organiza- tional unit. The manager establishes a network of contacts, where in- formation is exchanged. The manager spends much of his/her time on this role on one hand by making a number of commitments in order to establish these contacts, and on the other he/she takes part in various activities to maintain these contacts.
